The Scariest Two Days of My Life

The last two days have been thee worst and scariest days of my life.

We woke up on Thursday morning only to realize that somehow our gate to our patio was opened and both of our big dogs had gone missing.  They had to leave sometime around 1-6 am.

The first thing we did was throw some shoes on and head out to look for them.

We were unsuccessful. We walked, we drove, we worried.

We went to the humane society down the street around 9:00 to see if they'd been turned in. Nothing. But I will say that is the saddest place I've ever been. They let us into their animal hospital area to check if they were in there and some of those animals just broke my heart.

Around 11:00 we were getting ready to go to the county pound, when there was a knock at our door.  It was our next door neighbor wondering that was our dog outside.  There's a bit of a language barrier, as he is middle eastern. But it turns out Kenai was standing outside our gate trying to get inside.

So we open it and pull her inside.  The first thing I did after that was run outside the gate hoping that Root Beer wasn't that far behind her. But there was nothing. So Rob and I hop in the car to drive around looking for her.  We let our neighbor know that if they saw her to just open our gate and let her inside.

We drive around and find nothing. So we came back to check on Kenai. We wanted to make sure she wasn't hurt. She had a slight limp, but we think that's just because her feet were sore from running for so long.

We kept constantly walking around looking for Root Beer. Rob went to the county pound to look for her while I stayed home, just in case she showed up at our gate like Kenai did.

Nothing. We walked more. We drove more. We worried constantly. I broke down multiple times worrying about Root Beer.  I had an ad up on Craigslist and I would constantly check it for more updates, just in case someone found her and she didn't have her collar on. I waited for Rob's phone to ring, hoping it was someone that found her and got his number from her dog tag.

Two days went by. Two days filled with nothing but worry and sadness.

Then Saturday morning, right after a shower as we were getting ready to head back to the humane society and county pound, we got THE call. The call that someone found our dog. The call that let us know Root Beer was safe. That call gave me goosebumps, just ask Rob.

We threw on whatever clothes we could grab. I was speechless. I couldn't form a coherent sentence. I was just so ecstatic about going to get my dog.

We are so lucky Root Beer wasn't harmed.  She crossed two major streets.  We seriously could have lost her. :( But we didn't!

We have all our babies back home. Safe and sound.

I just want to thank everyone for the kind words and support you shared with me on Twitter.  It really meant a lot to me. <3

Pepper, MD

So, do you remember that dog I rescued a few weeks ago?

Well, I told the owner that if she ever needed to find her a new home that we would take her.  I said this thinking nothing would actually come of it.

Then about two weeks later I get an email from the owner asking me if I was serious about taking her.  Long story short, we have a new member of the family.

And she's been renamed (because we sure as hell weren't keeping Blanca)...

Get it? Dr Pepper? It's my favorite!

Now I shall show you some adorable pictures.

I'm not sure how this is comfortable.
Alright, she kind of looks like a demon right here.
She stares a lot. It's creepy.
Yep, that's my shoulder she's sleeping on.
And we haven't forgotten about our other babies. They're still around.

They're definitely still adjusting to the tiny dog running around the house.

My sleepy babes.

Five Question Friday

1. If you could have any talent and turn it into an occupation, what would it be?

Photography.  I love taking pictures.  I've wanted to better myself at it for awhile, but I don't make enough time for it in my life.  I think I'm going to change that.

2. Would you rather have a house at the beach or a cabin in the woods?

A cabin in the woods.  I love the beach but I don't want to live near it.

3. Is there any meaning or reasoning for the names you chose for your child/children?

We don't have kids right now, but we do have two fur babies.

Hubs picked Kenai.  He's originally from Alaska so he named her after the Kenai Peninsula.

I picked Root Beer.  There was a dog that I wanted from Pet Finder before we got ours and it's name was Root Beer and I thought that was the most adorable thing.  So, I picked it for my dog.  Plus the dogs looked almost identical.

Left; Kenai. Right; Root Beer.

4. What is your guilty pleasure? (I know we've done this one before, but I'm guessing people's "guilty pleasures" change frequently. At least, mine do!)

Fried foods.  I love them, all of them.  Well, mostly all of them.  This is something I should probably get over though. :(  Fried foods to not do the body any good.

5. Do you live in a house that is deep cleaned or straightened?

Straightened most of the time.  I have to be in one of those moods to actually deep clean.  I clean better when I'm angry or upset.

I just thought I would leave you with some fall hope.

My Uneventful [But Perfect] Weekend

  • Friday Hubs and I went on a date.  We originally planned to go to Olive Garden, but the wait was 30-35 minutes.  We were pretty hungry already so we went to Garcia's Mexican Restaurant instead.
  • We hung out with a few of Hubs "redneck" friends before dinner.
  • We went to breakfast at Bill Johnson's Big Apple and did some light shopping at Walmart on Saturday morning.
  • We saw my "sister-in law" for a little bit on Saturday night.  I was able to talk to her about trying to conceive without any judgement.  She's expecting a little girl soon.
  • I got to spend some time loving on my fur babies.

  • I've been spotting today, but AF isn't due for about five days.  Possibly implantation, so I guess we will see in a few days if AF shows up or if I decide to test.
  • My favorite: relaxing in bed with Hubs on a gorgeous rainy day.

How did you spend your weekend?

The dinner that took Hubs and I (almost) all day.

Hubs cooked the ribs and I did everything else.

Even the dogs got to enjoy it.

My Fur Babies

I've never introduced my fur babies before. So here we go...

The Kitties!

We've had Oliver since January of 2008. He was around a year and a half when we got him. The first thing that I noticed about him when I saw him was the coloring of his tail! I absolutely loved it! It reminded me of a raccoon. He is very much a cuddler and will crawl on your lap at every opportunity. He doesn't like the outdoors as much as the other cats. He prefers to sit on the back of the couch while Hubs and I watch television. He's one of the sweetest most loveable cats I've ever met.

We've also had Trauma since January of 2008. He was around a year old when we got him. The first time we saw him at the humane society he hit his head on the glass window, that's how he got his name. He's been an anti-social cat the entire time we've had him. Since moving into our house he likes to go outside through the doggy door and explore. So far, so good with him coming home. He doesn't know how to meow, so he just makes weird sounds. And when we first got him he was sick, so ever since then he's breathed really loud.

We got Nugget in February of 2009, Superbowl Sunday, actually. She's what you could call our "accident". We decided to go to the humane society to look at dogs and came home with a kitten. She was estimated at about 2-3 months old when we got her. Once we took her into the visiting room we knew we needed to take her home with us. She's also an explorer of the outdoors. She's not as anti-social but she will only come to you when she wants to. Sometimes when she meows no sound comes out, it's the weirdest thing.

The Puppies!

We got Kenai (right in picture) and Root Beer (left in picture) at the same him in September of 2008 -- they're actually sisters. They are Husky Labrador mixes. They were only a few months old when we finally got to bring them home. Kenai -- she's the smarter one of the bunch, but also the biggest trouble maker. She likes to go swimming, but not nearly as much as her sister. Root Beer -- she's a goofy dog, always getting caught doing something she's not supposed to be doing. She adores swimming and will get in the pool any chance she gets. She also enjoys sneaking on the couch in the middle of the night. They both get along with the cats great, but they do enjoy chasing them around the house whenever possible.

Root Beer

Look at Root Beer sitting in this chair like she owns it. Sorry, I just had to post this cute picture of my dog. <3
